Drop Spindle Masterclass: Dates for July

This isn't your regular crash course; while we cover a lot of information, the aim is not to overwhelm but to give you the skills and confidence that you need for your journey into spinning. 

This course is for complete beginners; for anyone who wants to learn how to spin, and is intimidated, or has tried to teach themselves and found it difficult. I'm here to help you get past that to make yourself some beautiful handspun yarn.

• Tour De Fleece SPECIAL OFFER £65 per person, 3 hour session
• Includes all the fibre required for spinning, detailed information booklet for reference at home, with the option to buy and keep your spindle at the end (prices start from £10 to max of £30 per spindle)
• tea, coffee and cake included in the session
• Maximum of five participants, to ensure that everyone gets the focus and critical feedback to improve on their skills throughout the session

What we cover:

• What different fibre types and preparations looks like, which are good options for a beginner spinner, including discussions about staple length and drafting
• a look at various types of spindles and how they work
• the basic principles behind spinning
• making and attaching a leader to your spindle to get set up and going
• how to correct common mistakes and problems, with lots of time for practice and feedback throughout the session
• various types of plying, with attempts at each and demonstrations
• a look at types of spinning equipment that are useful, and how to make do with what you already have at home
• how to set and finish your yarn after plying for the best results
• how to skein your yarn using a niddy noddy, to measure meterage and determine your yarn thickness.
